      <abstract>
        <p>This study tries to shed light on the sustainability practice in higher education, using SFIMAR, Mumbai, as the case institution. Drawing on Education for Sustainable Development, the whole-institution approach, and the triple-bottom-line framework, the study reviews initiatives across governance, curriculum, campus operations, and community engagement. Evidence was gathered through document review, observations, stakeholder interactions, surveys of 153 SFIMAR students, surveys of 147 students from other higher education institutions, and interviews with six sustainability practitioners. Results of the Regression analysis show that, the institutional approach and implementation challenges are important predictors of perceived sustainability outcomes. Overall, the findings point to gains in environmental awareness, student involvement, resource conservation, and institutional reputation, while also drawing attention to resource limitations, maintenance needs, behavioural change, and impact assessment.</p>
